Since joining WOW, Karla has discovered the power of using boxing and art as positive outlets to channel her anger and express herself.

Karla had a history of mistrusting adults, specifically teachers. When her father passed away, Karla struggled with behavior issues in school. There were frequent referrals for discipline and she was on the verge of being sent to an alternative school. Through her participation in Working On Womanhood (WOW), Karla now chooses to express her anger via boxing classes after school and art. When talking with teachers, Karla is slower to respond, allowing herself to think before she acts and use assertive communication. She is an active participant in her WOW group and encourages other members to speak up.
