Kate Barrett named GreenLight Boston Executive Director

The GreenLight Fund has named Kate Barrett executive director of its founding site in Boston.

Kate is a long-time GreenLight staff member, first joining the Boston office in 2008. Most recently she served as Associate Director, developing and managing GreenLight’s approach to selecting, supporting and evaluating the national portfolio of organizations. In that capacity, she also led GreenLight’s Social Innovation Fund Initiative.

With this move Margaret Hall, GreenLight’s co-founder and first executive director in Boston, will complete her transition to national executive director while remaining in Boston and deeply committed to the Boston community.

“Throughout this year’s selection process, our Selection Advisory Council had a chance to see Kate’s considerable talents and skills in action. Kate led us through this year’s successful selection cycle while running our national portfolio management and Social Innovation Fund work. I am thrilled that Kate is taking on this role and will able to focus her time, talents and passion for community change on strengthening and growing GreenLight Boston,” said Hall.

A Boston-area native, Kate is an active volunteer. She currently serves on the Massachusetts board of Generation Citizen and as a judge and mentor for MassChallenge start-ups. Kate earned an MBA from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and graduated from Colorado College with a BA in US History. She also studied Political Science and History at both the London School of Economics and the National University of Ireland in Galway.
