First Place for Youth Launched 2019 About First Place for Youth’s My First Place program housed at NewPath in Cincinnati provides housing and case management support to youth (ages 18-25) aging out of the foster care system. By living independently in apartments and receiving individualized wraparound support, education and employment services, young adults can focus on education and employment goals, build community and establish foundations for long-term success. Participants develop good tenancy skills, practice financial literacy skills and maintain relationships with landlords. GreenLight Cincinnati launched First Place for Youth’s My First Place to support positive outcomes for the hundreds of young people who age out of foster care each year in Hamilton County and are unprepared for independent living and adult life. For many, a lifetime of instability and limited support from family and community can make it challenging to establish a stable foundation as they transition into adulthood. The program mentors young people in life skills and staff provide education and guidance. This support helps participants develop a better understanding about what mature, responsible choices look like in personal and professional relationships, money management, and health and wellness. The workshops, individual mentoring and advocacy services ensure that young people feel supported and informed about the resources available to them. Young adults complete the program having built foundations in education and skills that lead towards self-sufficiency and living wage career pathways for the long term.
