Insights Celebrating Four Years: Rooted in Newark. Ready to Grow. Jul 9, 2026 Greater Newark Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Email On May 19th, we hosted Rooted in Newark. Ready to Grow at the Newark Museum of Art. The evening brought together residents, civic leaders, investors, Selection Advisory Council members, nonprofit partners, and friends who have believed in the GreenLight model and helped our organizations build meaningful roots in Newark. We celebrated the progress and future promise of first four selections, while recognizing the many relationships, introductions, honest conversations, and acts of partnership that have supported their expansion into our city. We also share deep gratitude for Mayor Ras J. Baraka and his early belief and commitment to GreenLight Fund Greater Newark, and John Simon, the visionary and co-founder of GreenLight Fund. We thank them both for sharing remarks and joining us in celebration. Additionally, we presented the inaugural Rooted in Newark Awards to Jasmine Joseph-Forman, Shanell Dunns, and Solomon Middleton-Williams — three trusted community leaders whose behind-the-scenes advocacy, credibility, and commitment have helped our portfolio organizations build stronger partnerships and remain grounded in the needs of Newark residents. Most importantly, the evening was filled with joy! Joy in seeing what we have built together. Joy in celebrating leaders who do the work without seeking recognition. Joy in honoring the people and organizations committed to creating greater opportunity for Newark residents. And joy in looking ahead to all that is still possible.
