Building Skills and Confidence: The Literacy Lab’s Leading Men Fellowship

Oct 5, 2026
Atlanta

An Atlanta teacher shares how consistent literacy support through the Leading Men Fellowship helped students strengthen foundational reading skills, build confidence, and participate more fully in the classroom.

At the beginning of the year, some students were hesitant during reading time and needed extra support with the building blocks of literacy. Through the Leading Men Fellowship, they received consistent, targeted practice that helped them strengthen those foundational skills week by week.

As their skills grew, so did their confidence. Students who once held back began participating more, taking greater risks with reading, and showing more enthusiasm during literacy activities. Having that additional support throughout the year made a real difference in both their progress and their willingness to engage.
