Building Independence: Youth Villages LifeSet Sep 23, 2026 Boston Despite childhood instability, homelessness, and foster care, Edana found stability and confidence through YV LifeSet — building financial independence and discovering a passion for advocacy. Her brother was removed from the home when she was seven, and by age 12, she had experienced homelessness and entered foster care. Separated from her younger sister and moved through multiple placements, she often felt overlooked and unsupported. When Edana joined YV LifeSet, she lacked confidence and felt uncertain about her future. With guidance from her LifeSet specialist, she developed budgeting and financial skills, purchased a car, and moved into her own apartment. She also discovered a passion for advocacy, speaking with lawmakers and sharing her story at events like Jam for Janie. Today, Edana is more confident, independent, and prepared for adulthood. Inspired by her love of plants, she believes growth is possible in any environment when given the right support. Now living independently and maintaining a strong relationship with her sister, Edana hopes to encourage other young women facing adversity to believe in themselves.
