Carol Goss was an early champion of GreenLight Detroit and was instrumental in the organization’s expansion to the city. She completed a fellowship in the Advanced Leadership Initiative program at Harvard University and before that served as CEO of the Skillman Foundation in Detroit from 2004 –2013.

 

Carol is a native Detroiter and has worked in philanthropy for the entirety of her career including as a program officer at the Stuart Foundation in San Francisco and as program director at the W. K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Carol’s professional career also includes nearly 20 years of experience in child welfare, family services, and youth development in Detroit and Oakland, California.

 

Carol has been recognized for her work in philanthropy in many ways but most notably holds awards from the Association of Black Foundation Executives as the 2007 James A. Joseph Lecturer and the 2011 “Idealist in Action” from the City of Detroit. Carol currently serves on the Boards of Board Source and Planned Parenthood of Michigan. Previously, she served on a number of Boards including City Connect Detroit, the Council of Michigan Foundations, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, and the Youth Development Commission.

 

She holds a BA in sociology and a MSW from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
