Marcela Hunter

Director, GreenLight Bay Area

San Francisco Bay Area

Marcela Hunter is a dedicated Bay Area native and a seasoned leader in people and culture strategy, with over a decade of experience advancing equity-centered initiatives in nonprofits, education, and community-based organizations. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Marcela’s deep commitment to this region is rooted in the people and places that shaped her—teachers, elders, neighbors, and peers who modeled the importance of culture, collective care, and community resilience.

Most recently, as the Senior Director of Strategy & Programs at the Homeless Children’s Network, Marcela led the development of advocacy-based programs such as the Black Birthing Health Initiative, which continues to reduce systemic barriers to maternal health and wellness for Black families in San Francisco. Her work helped strengthen community partnerships, expand culturally responsive care, and amplify the voices of those most impacted by disparities in healthcare access.

Through her consultancy, See Change Grow, Marcela has collaborated with over 100 organizations nationwide, supporting equity-driven leadership, inclusive programming, and organizational transformation. She has facilitated more than 50 organizational assessments and 40+ training programs to support DEI implementation, emotional intelligence, and sustainable team development—centering both accountability and healing.

Marcela’s expertise spans strategic planning, community engagement, social entrepreneurship, and nonprofit development. At the YMCA of San Francisco, she developed equity-centered learning experiences that helped cultivate inclusive leadership pathways, strengthen team cohesion, and build staff capacity across the organization.

Holding a B.A. in Psychology from Sonoma State University and an International Coach Certification from the Certified Coaches Alliance, Marcela blends research-informed practice with heart-centered leadership. For her, this work is more than a profession—it’s a life’s purpose rooted in curiosity, care, and a belief in the transformative power of community. Her passion for learning how communities love, grow, and evolve continues to guide her efforts to co-create systems of belonging, both in the Bay Area and beyond.
