In addition to our four-year financial commitment, GreenLight also partners with our portfolio organizations and stands with them as they operationalize their program. Through this partnership, the organizations thrive in the local community. The Center for Employment Opportunities and ParentChild+ have continued to provide opportunities for Charlotteans through the pandemic.
We are grateful to our partners at iHeartMedia for interviewing Carrie Cook, GreenLight Charlotte Executive Director, about the work of ParentChild+ and CEO on our local radio stations.
For the past 3 months the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) has been working for Mecklenburg County. CEO provides immediate, effective, and comprehensive employment services exclusively to individuals who have recently returned home from incarceration and provides employment to folks that normally would have a difficult time finding full time employment in our community. Meck County is utilizing two crews from CEO to help combat illegal dumping and unsightly roadside litter. The crews consist of 3-4 workers and a supervisor.
At the start of COVID-19, ParentChild+ immediately pivoted to virtual visits, though it wasn’t easy for families to adjust. Getting the child’s and parent’s attention at the same time was difficult. The Early Learning Specialists (ELS) knew they had to make a change. With pre and post-visit videos, they were able to prepare families and continue engagement through the pandemic.
“Something that was seen as impossible is possible now.”
