Willa Sweeney

Operations Associate

Willa joined the Greenlight Fund after a six-month fellowship in northwestern Thailand, where she worked to address educational inequalities among secondary school students. She graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2016, where she double majored in International Development and History. An avid traveler, Willa studied abroad in Vietnam, where she coordinated outreach work for the Center of Women and Development and recorded the stories of survivors of domestic abuse and trafficking. She has conducted field research on a Native American reservation in South Dakota, building and making economically sustainable a youth development program aimed at combating substance abuse. Outside of her UVA academic and research pursuits, Willa was the bookkeeper for a locally-owned Charlottesville favorite gourmet sandwich shop and enjoyed singing with her a cappella group.
