“Year Up facilitated my desire to pursue an education while simultaneously providing access to work experience in corporate America.”
This quote from Andre Brown, a graduate of Year Up Philadelphia’s first cohort, succinctly captures the immense positive impact the program has on the lives of its students. After a brief stint at Wesley College, Andre returned to his hometown of Philadelphia with a desire to break into the corporate world but found his immediate opportunities lacking. Fortunately, a serendipitous family connection led Andre to Year Up Philadelphia, which had the potential to open doors that would help him pursue his career aspirations.
“It’s one thing to build an organization that can serve a community. It’s quite another to build an organization that can serve a nation. GreenLight invests in nonprofits that not only demonstrate localized impact, but also evidence an ability to scale their programs so as to help solve problems in other communities – communities like Philadelphia.”
- Farah Jimenez, Commissioner, Philadelphia School Reform Commission
“While we are based in Philly, we consider and support companies from across the country and internationally. This broad focus allows us to invest in what we believe to be the best new ventures that meet key market demands. The GreenLight Fund believes the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors should not operate any differently.”
